Eagles Fall to Pioneers in Lancaster

Eagles Fall to Pioneers in Lancaster

Embry-Riddle battled with Antelope Valley in the first half as it was just a two point game, but UAV turned up the tempo in the second half and the Eagles lost 87-64.

UAV scored the first four points of the game, but Conner Ivy (Phoenix, Ariz.) got the Eagles on the board with a steal and layup to make the score 4-2.  Ivy followed his layup with a made three to bring ERAU within a point early on.  With 14:38 left in the first half, Demari Hackett (Surprise, Ariz.) tied the game 7-7.  The Pioneers went on to score the next seven points before Hackett ended their run with another layup.  UAV ran their lead to as many as nine points halfway through the first half but the Eagles answered with a three from Brett Bush (Nicholasville, KY.), a free throw from David Teibo (Phoenix, Ariz.) and a dunk by Dennis Pomazanov (Pleasant Hill, Calif.) to get within three points.  After the Pioneers extended their lead again, Pomazanov scored four straight points to bring the score to 15-18.  The last couple minutes of the half went back and forth and at halftime the score was Pioneers 30, Eagles 28.

After Antelope Valley made a dunk to start half number two, Pomazanov made a three point basket to bring the Eagles within a point.  ERAU then went cold as the Pioneers got back out to a ten point lead.  Pomazanov ended the cold streak for Embry-Riddle with another three point basket.  The Eagles struggled to score in the second half and the Pioneers didn't miss too many as they led 51-34 with 11:41 remaining in the game.  Christmas Togiai, Jr. (Kapolei, Hawaii) scored four straight points for the Eagles halfway through the half to bring the score to 60-42 as ERAU worked to battle back.  Every time ERAU went on a little run to get back into the game, UAV answered with one of their own as they went on to win 87-64.

Pomazanov led ERAU with 23 points and Togiai, Jr. added 17. Pomazanov also led in rebounds with 12 and Togiai, Jr. contributed five assists.
