Eagles Finish Weekend 2-0
Just like Thursday night, Embry-Riddle jumped out to a lead against Cal Maritime on Saturday afternoon as the Eagles went on to win their third straight game 76-63.
David Teibo (Phoenix, Ariz.) started the game with a steal that ERAU turned into a three point basket by Dennis Pomazanov (Pleasant Hill, Calif.) on the other end to take an early 3-0 lead. After a three by the Keelhaulers cut the Embry-Riddle lead to two points, Jake Klingler hit a three to bring ERAU to an 8-3 advantage. After two more points by CSUM, ERAU went on a 10-2 run capped off by a three from Christmas Togiai, Jr. (Kapolei, Hawaii) to make the score 20-7. The Keelhaulers cut into the Eagle lead and were able to get back within three points at 25-22 with just over 9 minutes left in the first half. Embry-Riddle however scored the next six points to extend their lead back out. A three point basket with 8 seconds left in the first half by Brett Bush (Nicholasville, Ky.) made the score 47-35 at the half.
The teams traded points to start the second half before both teams went cold for two minutes. Pomazanov ended the non-scoring with a layup but the Keelhaulers followed with a jump shot to keep the Embry-Riddle advantage at nine points. Once again, Cal Maritime cut the Eagle lead to five, but Klingler answered with another three point basket followed by a Pomazanov layup to make the score 58-48 ERAU. Togiai, Jr. hit another three point shot with 8:49 left in the game to put Embry-Riddle back up by 12 points and force a Keelhauler timeout. Out of the timeout, neither team could score again for almost four minutes until Conner Ivy (Phoenix, Ariz.) knocked down two free throws for the Eagles to make the score 68-54. ERAU held onto their lead as they went on to win 76-63.
Pomazanov led Embry-Riddle in scoring with 18 points and Togiai, Jr. finished with 17. Teibo had 12 rebounds to lead the Eagles and added in three steals.
ERAU will play again on Thursday in the Activity Center against Westcliff University with tip-off scheduled for 7:30pm.
