Eagles Earn Cal Pac Win

Embry-Riddle Men's Basketball won 75-58 over the Pioneers of Pacific Union to win their first Cal Pac game on Saturday evening in the Activity Center.

ERAU scored the first six points as David Teibo (Phoenix, Ariz.) made a free throw and grabbed two big rebounds to help the Eagles jump out to the lead.  Embry-Riddle led by as many as 8 just three minutes into the game after Dennis Pomazanov (Pleasant Hill, Calif.) made a layup.  The Pioneers went on a 6-0 run to get themselves back within two before ERAU scored again.  Halfway through the first half the teams were tied at 17-17.  With 8:29 left in the opening half, Christmas Togiai, Jr. (Kapolei, Hawaii) made a layup and the free throw after he was fouled to put the Eagles back in front at 21-20.  The PUC defense held Embry-Riddle scoreless for three minutes before Demari Hackett (Surprise, Ariz.) tied the game back up at 23-23 with just 4:13 left in the half.  After the first 20 minutes, ERAU led 33-31.

Embry-Riddle used an 8-0 run to start the second half as they took a 41-31 lead with 18 minutes remaining in the game.  Both teams went cold again for two minutes and thirty seconds before Hackett added another two points on a layup to extend the ERAU lead to 12 points. The Pioneers came within eight points, but the Eagle defense stood strong and didn't let them get closer.  Embry-Riddle led by as many as 19 points in the second half as Jake Klingler (Gilbert, Ariz.) made four free throws in a row to put ERAU up 70-51 with 5 minutes remaining.

Pomazanov led the Eagles with 28 points and 12 rebounds for another double-double.  Klinger added 17 points as he went 9-10 from the free throw line and Togiai Jr. scored 15.  Teibo finished the night with 11 rebounds.

Embry-Riddle will play again on Thursday January 11th as they head to the University of Saint Katherine's in Southern California for a 4pm tip-off.
