Eagles Battle Keelhaulers
Embry-Riddle took Cal Maritime to overtime on Thursday evening in the Activity Center before ultimately falling 83-74.
ERAU fell behind early but worked their way back into the game as Jake Klingler (Gilbert, Ariz.) made a three point basket for the first Eagle points of the night. Shortly after, Christmas Togiai, Jr. (Kapolei, Hawaii) made a jump shot to bring Embry-Riddle within five points. With 14:07 left in the first half, the Eagles tied the game on a three point shot by Gabe Estebanes. Klingler scored five points in a row for Embry-Riddle as the Eagles took a 19-16 lead. Neither team would score for a minute until the Keelhaulers tied the game at 19s. Dennis Pomazanov (Pleasant Hill, Calif.) scored ten first half points for ERAU and at the half the score was 35-34 in favor of Cal Maritime.
Demari Hackett (Surprise, Ariz.) made a three point basket to start the second half for Embry-Riddle as they retook the lead with the score at 37-35. ERAU extended their lead to ten points on another Klingler three with 14:04 remaining in the game. A scoring drought hurt the Eagles as they went three minutes without scoring and Cal Maritime tied the game at 52-52. The teams went back and forth and with 4.8 seconds left Klingler made another three to send the game to overtime with the score at 68-68.
In overtime, ERAU couldn't get their shots to fall and fell 83-74.
Klingler led all scorers with 24 points and Pomazanov had another double-double as he scored 20 points and had 11 rebounds.
Embry-Riddle will play again on Saturday against the Pioneers of Pacific Union at 8:30pm.
